What is Royal Rangers?

Royal Rangers is one of America's largest and foremost adventure programs for boys. It is a national program designed to meet the physical, spiritual, mental and social needs of boys and young men. Our ultimate goal is to help boys to recognize and grow into their place of leadership and responsibility as followers of Christ.

The threefold purpose of the Royal Rangers is:

To evangelize boys for Christ;
To develop the total boy for Christ — spiritually, physically, mentally and socially; and
To keep boys for Christ and in the church.

We want to reach, teach, and keep boys for Christ. We recognize that the boys we reach today will be the leaders of tomorrow! This ministry reaches across the United States and into over 63 nations around the world. It seeks to motivate boys spiritually through Bible study, memorization, devotionals, and Christian mentors. The boys are encouraged to excel through a weekly awards-based program. Further, the boys increase their physical prowess by participation in age-specific activities and recreation.

Finally, the young men are introduced to various church, community, and nature-related activities designed to help them develop social skills and awareness. Dedicated leaders, called commanders, provide boys with the necessary direction during weekly outpost meetings. These meetings serve to develop the total boy for Christ and to offer loving support and understanding for the boys through godly role models.

The average Thursday night meeting usually follows a typical agenda:

What is the age range?

Our church hosts 3 Royal Ranger groups:

Ranger Kids (grades 1-2) who follow a western theme;
Discovery Rangers (grades 3-5) who follow an outdoor, camping-oriented theme; and
Adventure Rangers (grades 6-8) who also follow an outdoor theme.

What costs are involved?

Registration costs vary from year to year, but are generally $25-30 per boy. This covers the cost of providing a Royal Ranger T-shirt and awards vest. Dues of 50 cents are collected at each regular outpost meeting to subsidize miscellaneous costs. Certain events (e.g., campouts) may also have a nominal fee to cover the cost of food and transportation.

A Royal Ranger is:

Clean - He is clean in body, mind and speech.
Honest - He does not lie, cheat, or steal.
Courageous - He is brave in spite of danger, criticism, or threats.
Loyal - He is faithful to his family, church, outpost, and friends.
Courteous - He is polite, kind, and thoughtful.
Obedient - He obeys his parents, leaders, and those in authority.
Spiritual - He prays, reads the Bible, and witnesses.
Alert - He is mentally, physically and spiritually alert.
